Week 5 Learning Log Part 2
Value of SHRM Connect:
As mentioned previously, SHRM Connect gave me a positive
experience for not only my class but for my career as an HR professional. I
felt that there was much value in lurking/analyzing information as well as
participating in the forums by posting my own questions and gathering useful
information.
To what extent was this helpful in providing you with insight
into the various issues from an HR perspective?
I was able to become familiar with various issues from an HR
perspective. For example, one area where HR tends to struggle is with their managerial
role and being viewed as leaders within an organization. I noticed several
posts on the topic of strategic contribution as an HR manager and how to
effectively work and determine different approaches to being a strategic
partner.
What surprised you about what you observed on the SHRMConnect
forums?
I was surprised at how many other students there were on the SHRM
connect forms. I felt reassured that though I am just starting the education
needed for my career as an HR professional, there are many other individuals in
the same situation as me. They are learning about similar competencies and have
questions and points of view that I may not have considered before. This was
very refreshing to learn more about the topics all on one HR specialized and credible
platform.
What, if anything, would you do differently to gain more value
from your participation in these forums?
If I were to apply myself on SHRM connect again, I suppose the
only thing that I would do differently is maybe finding forums that were more
currently dated to post on. This way, I would have been more likely to be
involved with other SHRM members and be a part of the discussion. I found that
in this course, I was more of a "lurker." Though I was able to find
the necessary tools and information to answer my discussion post questions and
learn more about the weekly blog topic, I wish I was more involved with other
members of the SHRM connect community.
Update from Previous Posts:
I checked my previous SHRM Connect Posts and found that there
were no updates or discussion threads added to any of my posts. This is okay
because, over the weeks, I was able to gather information on related topics to
my posts. With this information, I tied in my findings with the course content
and blog topics and was able to have a more comprehensive understanding and
application of the topics and their importance in HR.
